Arak isn't just a straight pour with water and ice. Here are three other ways to use it.

Knafeh Fizz

Knafeh is a popular Arab dessert and the Ramos Gin Fizz is a New Orleans classic. Put them together and this is what you get.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz ghee arak
  • 1 oz pistachio orgeat
  • 0.75 oz lemon
  • 1 Tbsp Greek yogurt
  • 0.5 oz heavy cream
  • Aquafaba (or 1 egg white)
  • Sparkling water

Arak Lemonade

Bright, pomegranate-tinged, and dangerously easy on a hot afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz arak
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz pomegranate grenadine
  • 1.5 oz sparkling water
  • Dash of orange blossom water

Method

  1. Shake grenadine, lemon, and orange blossom water.
  2. Add sparkling water (or wine).
  3. Top with arak.
  4. Garnish with a twist of lemon or mint.

Watermelon + Feta

Also known as the Free Palestine cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz watermelon cordial
  • 0.5 oz feta brine
  • 1 oz arak
  • Hard shake, strain over ice, garnish with mint and feta

Watermelon cordial (makes 1 liter)

  • 800 g watermelon
  • 200 g honey
  • 16 g citric acid
  • 150 g water
  • Blend, strain, keep refrigerated
